BIR Registration Guide

Not sure if you need to register?

Here is the simple version of what BIR requires from Filipino freelancers and virtual assistants.

01

Get a TIN

Required for everyone

If you are earning money in the Philippines, you need a Tax Identification Number (TIN). You can get one for free at your local BIR Revenue District Office (RDO).

02

Get a Certificate of Registration (COR)

Required for freelancers

If you are self-employed or freelancing, you need a COR from BIR. This officially registers you as a taxpayer. Fee: approximately ₱500.

03

Apply for Authority to Print (ATP)

Required to issue receipts

With your COR, you can apply for an ATP — the BIR permit to print official receipts. Your OR booklet is then printed by a BIR-accredited printer.

04

Start Issuing Receipts

Where ereceipts helps

Once you have your ATP and OR booklet, you are legally authorized to issue Official Receipts. This is where ereceipts takes over — making every step effortless.

This is a simplified overview for educational purposes. Requirements may vary based on your business type and income. Always consult a licensed accountant or BIR directly for official guidance.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need a BIR registration to use ereceipts?

No — you can start creating and organizing receipts right away. However, for your receipts to be legally valid BIR Official Receipts, you do need to be registered with BIR and have an Authority to Print (ATP). ereceipts helps you format and track receipts; the legal compliance is your responsibility.

Does ereceipts issue official receipts or OR numbers?

No. ereceipts is a formatting, tracking, and compliance assistance platform. It does not issue Official Receipts or generate legal OR numbers. You are responsible for your BIR registration, ATP approval, and OR numbering.

What is an Authority to Print (ATP)?

The ATP is a BIR permit that authorizes you to print and issue Official Receipts. Without it, your receipts are not legally valid. ereceipts stores your ATP number, tracks its expiry, and alerts you before it lapses.

Can I use ereceipts if I am not yet BIR registered?

Yes. You can use ereceipts to prepare and organize your receipts while you complete your BIR registration. Our BIR Guide section walks you through the steps you need to take.

Is my data safe?

Yes. All data is stored securely on Supabase with row-level security — meaning only you can access your receipts, clients, and business information. No data is shared with third parties.

What payment methods are accepted?

ereceipts accepts major credit and debit cards, GCash, and Maya via PayMongo — the leading Philippine payment gateway.
